Why this study?

Every individual that manages or owns a language center is aware of their business numbers. Whether it is recruitment rates, margins, key benefits or teacher to students ratio, they know how to operate their academy somewhat efficiently.

What not everyone seems to know, is how well those numbers compare to other language centers. A big factor that we keep seeing overlooked is the role of technology in language learning.
Many seem to ignore, willingly or unknowingly, that technology is becoming more and more, a quintessential piece for the language education system.

The ecosystem has been shifting for years now, and many still seem unaware of it. And we wanted to make sure this changed, and everyone was aware of it, not with empty words, but with facts.
This is where Verxacts’ 2020 study comes in.

Our Goal

It’s been a while now since we set ourselves the goal of publishing a study that focused on the role of technology in the language education industry.

After much thought, we decided that our main objective with this study was to have a reliable source of data, that would analyze professional opinions, on the increasing usage of technology in language learning techniques.
And so, during 2019 and early 2020, we took the step and performed a worldwide survey.

that included answers from over 100 language schools and more than 20 different countries.

Who provided the data?

This study has been possible thanks to the survey we launched by the end of 2019, where we gather information from all over the globe.
The sample of the study includes over 100 language schools and language professionals from over 20 different countries.

What can I find in the study?

In it, you’ll find a goldmine of statistics, data, and trends surrounding language centers, technology, and blended learning.
Together, these numbers tell a story of change and evolution in the language education industry.

Feel free to download the complete study, or take a sneak peek at some of the data provided in the study, that we will be showing below.

In this post, we will be answering…

  • What do your students value most about your academy?
  • What are the most requested certificates at language schools?
  • How many teachers do you have?
  • How many students per class do you have?
  • How is your academy positioned at the technological level?

What do your students value most about your academy?

In terms of the features that students value most in language academies, we found great disparity depending on the needs of each student. However, we found that the main values most requested were native teachers, followed by interactive classes, and flexible schedules.

What are the most requested certificates at language schools?

The most demanded certificates in language schools is TOEFL, followed by Cambridge Exams and IELTS. The least requested official examinations are CLB, ILR and ACTFL.

How many teachers do you have?

The vast majority of the academies have staff from 3 to 10 teachers. Followed by 1-2(%), 11-30(%), and 31 or more(%)

How many students per class do you have?

Most school groups are between 6 and 15 students or more. Nonetheless, it is also common to find groups of between 2 and 5 students or less in some cases.

How is your academy positioned at the technological level?

In relation to the technological level of the academy, the vast majority are considered to be at an intermediate level (31.1%). Only 15.6% are considered technologically advanced.
